Whilst any of the designs on our website can be custom made by simply contacting us and discussing options, bespoke bindings are one off designs and sit at the point where art meets craft. If you have a special book or a project you’d like to have bound by David he’d be happy to discuss your vision and help to bring it to life. He has years of experience in binding and has worked with a range of materials and methods, adapting, perfecting and inventing ways to achieve a unique work of art.  

Pictured here is ‘The Junkman Smiles’ a leather rounded and backed binding. The cover design is created with leather onlay and blind lines some of which are infilled with contrasting leathers – a method David developed for this book. 

The two leathers are scarf jointed with the edges coloured to fit the two-tone cover. An adapted Chinese character has been used in the shape of the junk. Blue and yellow rectangles symbolising the apertures in the keel, are coloured with car paint. On the back is a leather onlay design of a rising sun.
