Charleston (Coptic)
£46.00
Note & sketchbook
Our coptic bound desktop book has an exposed spine where the stitches and the folds of the signatures are visible. The hard cover has some flexibility and we’ve chosen this *Charleston Cross patterned paper from Cambridge Imprint which we’ve paired with soft grey coloured papers interleaved throughout and black linen thread. With 128 pages of 140gsm acid free cartridge paper this book is suitable for writing and artwork. The pages are hand torn giving the book a softer edge.
Coptic binding is ancient sewing method and produces a book that lays open when flat and can fold back on itself without damaging the spine. It was employed by early Copt Christians in Egypt and dates back to the 2nd century AD.
*Charleston is a Sussex farmhouse once the home of artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. Their art was inspired by Italian Frescoes and impressionist painting and found its way onto the walls, doors and furniture of their home. They even created their own rugs, lampshades, bowls and plates. Bell and Grant have left a beautiful repository of colour and exuberance that continues to inspire artists and designers.
