Poetry Pharmacy Postcards – Calm
£3.50
Poetical remedies for the restoration of the self, prescribed by the Poetry Pharmacy.
These gorgeous poetry postcards are a collaboration between Poetry Pharmacist Deb Alma, also known as the emergency poet, graphic designer Karen Karn and our in-house writer & artist Kim Squirrell.
The inspiration for a creating a series of typography cards came from early research into our old tailor’s shop and nineteenth century poster printing. They’re a perfect fit for the world’s first walk in Poetry Pharmacy in Bishop’s Castle, where you’ll find ‘a warm welcome and the opportunity to browse according to your mood…books, art, gifts, beautiful stationery and artefacts all chosen to address a particular emotional ailment.’
We were encouraged to create postcards by our own family habit of buying, sending and displaying them in our home and work rooms. Created in 1870 the postcard shot to popularity as a cheap and speedy form of communication. The first British postcards had a penny black printed on them so all you had to do was write and post. While we can’t manage a prepaid card, we hope our poetry postcards will help revive this easy way to say hello to friends and family and send along a poetry remedy at the same time! And of course, we’ve made them very collectable.
The seven Poetry Pharmacy prescriptions are: Calm, Comfort, Inspiration and Words of Love, the essential First Aid in case of emergency and Wild Remedy when the mood demands it. As to Becoming we consider Deb’s prescriptions to be an essential toolkit for our journey through life. Look out for her anthologies and books, visit her shop in Bishop’s Castle or London’s Oxford Street. You can even sit for a while in the pharmacy cafe where they dispense restorative drinks and cakes.
